Pediatric Libraries Special Interest Group

Mission

The Mission of the Pediatric Libraries Special Interest Group is to serve the informational needs of its members and to facilitate the professional development of librarians working in the child health care library environment by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas relating to Pediatric Librarianship, and for improved communication and resource sharing among its members.

History

Librarians in children's hospitals and pediatric institutions met for the first time at the 1980 MLA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. The group met informally at first, continued to gather annually and officially became a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Hospital Libraries Section of MLA in 1995. Currently, the group evaluates pediatric information resources and provides tools for professional communication. A complete history to 2005 was published, in part, in MLA News, Feb. 2005, no. 373, p. 15. Read the complete document titled,The Pediatric Sig.
