DOCLINE PED Group and ILL- FAQ
Sometimes questions come up about membership in the DOCLINE PED group. That group was created many years ago when we first began producing a printed union list. The institutions included were those who had a library collection and librarian, at least those we were able to identity. The libraries also agreed to be included in the PED group and to include their holdings in the union list. It is a different group from the Pediatric SIG or the Pediatric listserv.
In the beginning, the members of the PED group agreed to provide free ILLs to each other. However, financial times have changed, and inclusion in the PED group does not obligate a library to provide free ILLs or guaranteed a member receipt of free ILLs. At this time, these libraries are known to charge: American Academy of Pediatrics, Children's of Los Angeles, Children's National (DC), Children's of Michigan, and St. Jude's.
In DOCLINE, how can you tell if a library charges for loans? If you are looking at a record in the Serial Holding section, click on the little yellow button next to a library symbol; that will display their fees, as well as other information. See the following screens (pdf) for more information. You can also search under Institutions to find a library's fee information.
